2010 MCJGA Newsletter

Dear MCJGA Members and Family,

This year marks the tenth season of events for the MCJGA. Each year since its inception the MCJGA has tried to add something new to improve the experience for its members. Whether it be the addition of new tournaments, the introduction of an official MCJGA website, online registration for tournaments, etc. the MCJGA is constantly changing. For 2010, we have made more changes than ever before. Two new 18 hole events have been added to the schedule, a 2 day, 36 hole event is being introduced, points awarded for player of the year standings now have double values for the 36 hole event and the tournament of champions, a new scholarship fund will award (2) $1000 scholarships to MCJGA members, and a new policies and procedures manual is posted on the website to assist members and their families with any questions they may have about our organization.
As usual, we will start our schedule with a match play event in the spring at Boone Creek Golf Club in McHenry. The field is limited to the first 40 boys and girls (combined) between the ages of 13 and 18 who sign up by the April 2nd deadline. The event begins Monday, April 12th. Additional dates and other information are provided on the spring match play event details in the tournament schedule link.
There will be ten 18 hole (boys)/ 9 hole (girls) events this season which includes two new tournaments, the McHenry Open at McHenry CC on June 21st and the Pinecrest Open at Pinecrest GC on August 4th. Also, the event at Boone Creek is now a 2 day, 36 hole (boys)/ 18 hole (girls) event and will be officially called the MCJGA Billy Vahldieck Memorial McHenry County Junior Amateur. This means there will be eleven regular season events total this summer:

Prairie Isle Open June 9th
Chapel Hill Open June 16th
McHenry Open June 21st
Plum Tree Open June 25th
Crystal Woods Open June 30th
Marengo Ridge Open July 5th
GCI Open July 7th
Cary Open July 14th
McHenry County Junior Amateur
at Boone Creek GC
July 19th & 20th
Red Tail Open July 29th
Pinecrest Open August 4th

The MCJGA also has a few other events on the schedule as well. The 4th Annual Team Event at Boone Creek Golf Club on August 6th is for teams of four players representing their respective high schools. The top three scores from each team are counted as the team score.
The Tournament of Champions event on August 5th will be at Oak Grove Golf Course. The top eight finishers and ties in each of the regular season events will receive points that count toward a Tournament of Champions invitation. The top eight point leaders from each of the boys divisions will be invited and the top four point leaders for each of the girls divisions will be invited. The overall point leader for each division will be named a MCJGA Player of the Year. Also, the top three point leaders in each division at the end of the season receive an invitation from the IJGA (Illinois Junior Golf Association) to participate in the following year’s Tournament Players Series events. These are considered elite events on the IJGA schedule.
We also offer a fall event. The 2nd annual MCJGA Fall Classic will be held on Saturday, October 23rd. This event is after the fall high school season ends so it will not conflict with any IHSA regulations.
Please remember that the MCJGA is using online registration as the only method to become a member and sign up for events. Simply click on the tournament schedule or member area links and follow the instructions to sign up for events.
Fields are limited to the first 120 boys and girls (combined) who sign up by the tournament deadline. Entries for each event close 10 days prior to the competition. There are two age divisions for both boys and girls. The junior division is for competitors between 13 and 15. The senior division is for competitors between 16 and 18. Competitors must be at least 13 years of age as of August 10th and may not have reached their 19th birthday before the date of any event for which they would like to participate. Entry fees for each 18 hole event are $40 for boys (includes 18 hole greens fee, lunch, and awards for the top 3 finishers in each of the boys divisions) and $28 for girls (includes 9 hole greens fee, lunch, and awards for the top 3 finishers in each of the girls divisions). The 36 hole event at Boone Creek GC is $75 for boys and $50 for girls. All competitors must be members of the MCJGA to participate. A 2010 membership is $40 for both boys and girls. Other event specifics are available on each tournament entry form.
Also, new for 2010 are two scholarships available to MCJGA members who are graduating in the spring of 2010. Check out the new scholarship link on the mcjga website for details.
